Priced for the Starving Artist (Mostly)

A teardrop rolls over his pale face. And he takes the first step on this unknown planet. John is 21 years old, he is alone. They are more like your enemies and they like brains, especially your brain! So, John wants to escape — from the world. When he went to Oklahoma with a stolen car, he found an old farm where he hid for several months. One day he went to a city 12 miles away from his farm to get new food and medicine and weapons. John screamed and yelled at her. When she saw him, her eyes glanced.

There was hope in her eyes. John shot a Zombie that came along. John stopped the car and the girl ran to him. She breathed very fast. John started the car. He drove along the street and parked in front of a supermarket, where no Zombies were. They got into a long conversation while John was searching for food and other helpful things in the supermarket.

She just walked by his side and told him about her story and that she had lost her whole family to the Zombies and hid herself in an old hospital at night. John took her home. One day, when he was going home to the farm, after he had gone to the forest, he saw thousands of Zombies at the farm. The Zombies got Jane. He screamed and cried. His new-found hope was gone, he lost Jane in the Zombie invasion.

But he got his eyes closed, he opened them when he heard some strange noises in front of him and saw all the Zombies coming toward him. He ran to his car and turned on the engine. He drove away from the farm, crying. But he was still crying. He drove along a lonely highway. Every hundred meters there were some crashed cars with dead persons or Zombies. He knew he was lost. After days of only driving around he stopped the car on the highway. He took his gun and held it to his head.

His eyes hurt and were red. There was no other way. He lost his only hope and he got crazy in the last days. He started conversations with himself and had no food for days. He took his life, two miles before he reached the military base where he could have been safe with other people who gave up on their hope. He wanted to be here15 minutes ago. I become really angry… This is defintely the first and last time I offer him to drive home, just to make possible that he can go out so long.

Just 18 for two months and already fucks up coming out of the club in time. Hope everything is alright! He wakes up, confused, armed with only a torch in a big forest with no signs of living humans nor any other living being. Not able to run fast he decides to walk through the forest, trying to find a way out, to find civilization. When suddenly he finds a car.

He slams the door full of anger and apparently a sheet of paper drops right in front of his feet. He stares at it for a moment… [to be continued]. It was a big lie. All those years I believed he was gone forever. All those months I spent crying alone in my room, reading about his adventures he wrote down for me. It seemed like he was dreaming. I did not want to wake him up. I leaned back in my chair and took a deep breath.

Down here in my hideout, the air was a lot cooler than outside. I spent a lot of time down here, trying to make contact with other survivors through this radio station. But I did not expect to find him. I heard his voice again. Are there any survivors? This could not be! My grandfather was dead! There is nothing I could do about it. Maybe I was just going crazy. It is a miracle that I managed to stay sane for this long anyway. I was afraid to tell him who I really was. Why are you still down there?

I lived anywhere in the states, I guess. To be honest, I do not quite remember those things anymore. I remember everything about them, but there is not a lot to remember. They were always too busy to spend time with me. They went to work all day. And sometimes they travelled to foreign countries. Without taking me with them, of course.

Grandfather and I would sit under a tent made of blankets and chairs we made ourselves, and he would tell me about all those adventures he went on, when he was younger.

Sadly he passed away when I was 12 years old. But he loved me and he left me a lot of his stuff too! Every time I hold it in my hands, I imagine how he used it to cut liana or fight dangerous animals. Four years later on another day I spent alone at home, the thing happened. It was a big thing. It was the apocalypse. I ran out of the house when thousands of meteors fell from the sky.

When I woke up, I found myself in the middle of a lonely desert. There were no buildings, people or plants. My throat burned because I was so thirsty. After finding a broken satellite dish, I figured out that the houses had to be somewhere under the sand. I managed to break one of the windows and climb down into the house. Luckily, I found a lot of water bottles and some food that still looked kind of edible. It was the same house, where I found Kenny. His leg was trapped under a closet and the poor dog whimpered the whole time.

I searched for a first aid kit after I had freed him and tried to make a bandage around his leg, to avoid more loss of blood. Together we travelled through the desert until we found this hideout. We only went out to grab some water and food from desolated houses. Kenny was a really smart dog because every time I started digging, he just joined in and helped me. Well, this is how we lived through a few months. I guess that now you understand why I was in a bit of a shock when my grandfather made contact with me.

Drawing on your own life experiences can provide you with a wide array of story topics. Not only that, it can be an interesting way to better understand yourself and share your experiences with the world. The word blog is a shortened form of the term web log, which can refer to any type of writing that is published regularly on the internet. Blogs can be stories, factual pieces, or diaries. Poetry can take any number of forms, from traditional rhyming couplets to modern free-form verse.

Poets typically develop their own unique writing style and write about any topic imaginable, from situations and emotions to current events or social commentary. Screenplays or stage plays. These are detailed scripts written for a film or a play. This form of writing has very specific rules about structure and formatting, but the subject matter can be anything you like. Think of a topic.

Inspiration can come from any number of places, and at any time. Some writers keep a small notebook handy to jot down ideas for future stories. Observe what is happening around you and turn it into a story. Adapt your thoughts into a story. Draw on an interesting or unusual event that happened in your own life. You could even use a random prompt generator website to get a unique suggestion just for you!

A common variety of writing is adaptation, where the author bases the idea for their piece on an existing work. Think about the plot to a book or film you enjoyed that would be interesting to see handled in a different way or with a different type of ending.

Use your imagination to approach the topic in an entirely new way, so that your work is uniquely your own. The popular 's teen movie Clueless is a modern adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel Emma. Many authors have adapted its basic story structure of a hero's quest. Stories about vampires are all loosely adapted from Bram Stoker's Dracula, but many different writers have put their own unique spin on the concept. Identify your main themes. What do you want to say?

How do you want your reader to feel when they finish reading your piece? Is there an important social, philosophical, or environmental concept that you would like to convey? Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series addresses themes of courage, and the triumph of good over evil. Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy plays with themes about the absurdity of life, the interconnectedness of all things, and how seemingly minor incidents can have huge consequences.

Many writers find that it helps to plan their piece before they begin writing. If you are writing a fiction piece, you might want to plan out all your major characters and plot points. If you are writing a non-fiction piece, research the subject carefully and then list the major ideas you want to address.

Defining the characteristics, traits, mannerisms, and backstory for your characters is a great way to get started. You can even outline their character arc and role in your story.

You can easily develop well-rounded characters using character sheets. You can find character sheet templates online, such as here: Try not to overthink things, or you might have difficulty getting started.

Once you know what you want to write, just begin writing. Start anywhere you like. You don't have to start writing a piece at the beginning. You can work on any portion of the piece that appeals to you right now. You could also think of how you want to end the article or story, and then think about how to want to get there. Write your own way. If writing the complete piece seems daunting, consider writing individual scenes and then piecing them together as you go. The more you write, the more familiar you will become with the methods that work best for you.

Grab the reader's attention. Avoid excessive introductory passages, and get to the main subject or action of your article or story right away. If your reader doesn't care what happens to your characters, they will soon lose interest in the story. Avoid stereotypes at all costs, and try to create multi-dimensional characters that have individual personalities and complex emotions.

If you are writing a non-fiction work about an actual person or event, include specific details about the key players to make them more interesting to your reader. Select a time and setting that appeal to you. A great story can be set anywhere you can imagine, in any time period you like.

Sometimes combining unexpected elements will lead to a fresh new take on the subject. Think of a familiar place you encounter every day, but set the story years in the future — or 1, Set your story in the modern day world, but change one very key element — imagine that dinosaurs never went extinct, electricity was never invented, or aliens have taken over the planet.

Whatever time period you choose, make sure the reader has a firm understanding of it early in your story so that they can properly follow the story. The reader needs to know the time period in order to imagine that characters and scenes. Think about the type of person who will be reading this particular piece, and write just for them.
